Hi we are the sub team for the steering mechanism and our team members are: Thang Ngo, Jeffrey Chau, Chin Ming Lui and Alejandro Valenzuela. Our goal is to redesign the steering mechanism in order to improve the reliability, safety and ride quality of the ATN bogie. We would like to focus on simplifying the previous design as well as improve the response of the steering mechanism during the switching action. Our first priority is to come up with a design that reduce the chance the bogie is not supported by the guiding wheels when the bogie switches from one rail to another. At the first stage of the project, we are now brainstorming and researching for various kinds of possible design and we then make sketches or computer graphed design using autoCAD or SolidWork. We will then discuss some of the shortcomings of each of the design of the mechanical design. In addition, the improvement will easy the transition when switching track, reducing vibration and noise. Furthermore, we want to come up with an active system to help steering wheels firmly secure on surface of the track.
